Akar — how this was decidedDesign decisions · what was removed

What isn't here.

This site went through four designs, two headlines and one live data feed before it looked like this. Most of that work is gone. What was removed is easier to judge than what stayed, so that is what this page is.

The ground is not black

The first specification said #0B0D10 with a #4C8DFF accent. Both were wrong, and I wrote them myself.

Pure black plus a saturated blue is the prop-firm formula — it reads as application chrome no matter what else the page does. The ground is now #101214, lifted just enough to read as a surface being printed on rather than a screen being operated, and the accent is desaturated to #6E93B8. My own test for the whole design was whether I would feel I was about to open a trading platform. Two hex values decided it.

Four ways, three dropped

Before the sections got their spine, four directions were built and rendered with identical content: a plain document, a signal chain, an operations log, and a drawing on paper.

The log was closest to the terminal aesthetic I had already banned. The drawing may have been the most striking of the four — it was dropped anyway, because it discarded a design already reviewed and corrected in three languages, and novelty is not a strong enough reason for that.

Four directions. Three stop.

Labels I built and then deleted

The chain direction came with each section named for a stage of a broadcast signal path: source, signal chain, transmitter, receiver. I built that version and looked at it.

Contact as receiver is where a true idea turns into a theme park. The line already makes the argument; the words were making it a second time, and louder — the metaphor was set in the accent colour, so the brightest word in each heading was the one that wasn't literally true. The spine stayed. The labels went.

A line nobody could see

The chain shipped at a contrast ratio of 1.30:1 against the page. That is not a subtle rule, it is an invisible one.

I had chosen the colour by rule rather than by eye — the design system reserves the accent for links and data, so a structural line got a neutral. The rule was right and the result was unreadable. Measuring it against the ground, rather than looking at it, is what caught it. It sits at 3.96:1 now, still spending no accent.

The number that used to be here

The homepage said an honest number, or no number, and underneath it showed the live gap between the official and street USD/IQD rates, read from my own pipeline and refusing to print anything when the feed was stale.

It worked, and it is gone. The homepage's job is the fork, and a figure sitting between the headline and the two doors was a third thing competing with both. The promise was real; the placement was wrong.

What is here

One accent, spent on links and data. No filled buttons anywhere. Nothing boxed that is not a bounded object. Three languages set with the same care, not one translated twice.

Everything above is a thing that was built, looked at, and taken out. That is most of the work.
